I came to landscape photography after many years and 16,000 miles of long distance hiking. Covering thousands of miles alone and at a walking pace inspires a profound appreciation of the natural world and invites contemplation. Seeking a creative outlet that embodied those values, I turned to large format photography. I enjoy the deliberate and labor intensive aspects of the process. Because it is a methodical and entirely manual endeavor, it forces me to slow down – to a mental walking pace – and create an image worthy of my subject. My intent is not merely to capture a moment, but to evoke feelings and promote an emotional connection to the subject.
