I came to landscape photography after many years and 16,000 miles of long distance hiking. Traveling thousands of miles alone and at a walking pace nurtures a profound appreciation of the natural world and invites contemplation. Seeking a creative outlet that embodied those values, I turned to large format photography. I enjoy the deliberate and labor intensive aspects of the process. It is a methodical and entirely manual endeavor that forces me to slow down - to a mental walking pace - and create an image worthy of my subject. My intent is not merely to capture a moment, but to evoke a feeling and create an emotional connection to the subject.
