My notion of pattern-mixing and palette had been transformed by a visit to India and seeing images of exquisitely embellished and adorned women performing daily routine tasks. I am captured by both cultural reference and the individual woman's taste. My forms are made from hand-colored porcelain slabs; layers of colored porcelain slips are applied on top of one another and water-etched using a shellac resist which is drawn onto the form with patterns associated with femininity. I further enhance and accentuate the decorative pattern with underglaze embellishment and clear glaze while the body of the form remains unglazed and "naked".
