Call for Visual Artists Nationwide — 2026

Artist Applications Now Closed

Thank you to all the artists who applied to be part of the 2026 juried artist program.

Our carefully curated exhibition brings together outstanding work from across the region and across the country, and the main street juried artist program remains a central part of the festival experience, connecting high-quality visual artists with a large and engaged public audience in the heart of Williamsburg.

Selected artists will exhibit their work during festival weekend and join a vibrant community of artists, collectors, and visitors.

Artist notifications will be sent by May 29, 2026.

I am an artist, how do I participate?
Applications are currently open for artists who wish to have their own booth to display and sell their work.
It’s a juried show, and the deadline to apply is May 8. Learn more and apply now on ZAPP.
How much does it cost to participate?
Application fee is $40.
If invited to participate, booth fee for a 10×10 tent is $495.
Discounts at local hotels will be available for invited artists.
Do I have to provide my own tent?
Yes, artists must provide a 10×10 or 10×20 professional grade white tent with at least 40lbs of weight per leg.
Can I request electricity?
No, there is no electricity available for artist booths, and generators are not allowed.
I see that I have to have a City of Williamsburg Business License to participate, how do I do that?
We are currently making a comprehensive fact sheet about this with step-by-step instructions for participating artists.
In the meantime, you can refer to the city website or contact Executive Director Hannah Barco with your questions at [email protected].
When is load in and set up?
Load in and set up takes place on Friday October 2.
Once you are invited to participate you will fill out a survey which will provide the production team with the needed information to schedule your load in time on Friday.
I see that show insurance is required but I don’t have insurance, what do I do?
Single show insurance is available at an affordable rate through Artists Crafters & Tradesmen Insurance Company.
We highly recommend their services.
How do I know what category to apply in?
The Festival has 13 distinct medium categories. You can see the detailed descriptions on the right. If you are still unsure, please contact Executive Director Hannah Barco at [email protected].

2D Categories

2-D Mixed Media & Digital
These are works that incorporate the use of two or more media such as ink & pastel, or painting and collage-type of materials, which are combined in a single original work. This category includes any work created by using computer programs to significantly manipulate or alter source material(s), or drawn digitally with a stylus. [Digital work must be signed limited editions, using only archival quality materials.]

Drawing and Pastels
Original compositions that are drawn by the artist’s hand incorporating ink, chalk, wax, crayon, charcoal, pastel, pencil, etc., or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush.

Painting (Oil / Acrylics / Encaustic / Tempera / Watercolor)
These are original compositions that are created by the artist’s hand using wet media (other than ink) on canvas, panel or other substrate. [Painting over prints, giclees or pre-existing images (regardless of the substrate) is not considered an original. These are considered altered reproductions and must go in browse bins and be labeled as outlined below.]

Photography
Includes all photographic processes that begin with a camera lens. Photographs made from the artist’s original image, both from film and original digital files, are included. Photo collage and painting on photographs through photographic processes are included in this category.

Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes (including any digital alteration, hand painting, or over-painting). The process must be displayed with the photograph or indicated in the displayed artist statement. Work must use only archival quality materials. In all cases, the work must be produced and printed by the exhibiting artist or under the artist’s supervision.

Printmaking
Prints are defined as multiple originals where the artist’s hand has manipulated the plates, stone, blocks, composite reliefs, or screens and which are properly signed and numbered in limited editions. [Photocopies, giclees, offset reproductions, or machine-produced images are not considered print originals. These are considered reproductions and must go in browse bins and be labeled as such.]
