Call for Art Lab Educators

An Occasion for the Arts, in partnership with the Muscarelle Museum of Art, is seeking 12 educators to lead short, hands-on Art Lab workshops during the 2026 festival weekend.

Held in the Avant Garden alongside the Student Artist Showcase, the Art Lab will offer a “tastings of art” experience: short, focused, drop-in workshops that give festival visitors a meaningful sample of an educator’s creative teaching style.

Selected educators will receive a $500 honorarium stipend to host their drop-in
workshop in the Art Lab Tent, alongside two other educators, for a 3 hour period during the run of the Festival.

The Art Lab tent will be equipped with some basic reusable supplies, any specialty
supplies must be provided by the educator, using a portion of their stipend to ensure materials for at least 100 participants.

Selected educators are encouraged to use the opportunity to connect with the
community and promote future classes, workshops, camps, studio programs, or private instruction. Applying to be an Art Lab Educator may also lead to an opportunity to teach year round with the Muscarelle Museum of Art.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking art educators who can offer engaging, festival-friendly art experiences.

Strong workshop proposals should be:
● Accessible and welcoming to a broad audience of youth artists
● Short-form and drop-in friendly
● Hands-on and visually engaging
● Manageable in a busy outdoor festival setting
● Connected to the educator’s larger teaching practice, studio work, or future
offerings

Workshop ideas may include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, fiber arts, sculpture, bookmaking, zines, paper arts, museum-based learning, art history, or contemporary art connections.

Workshop Format

Art Lab workshops should feel like mini creative experiences rather than full-length
classes. A meaningful “taste” of what an educator offers.

Applications will be accepted through July 15, 2026.

After the application period closes, 12 educators will be selected and notified with
additional details about scheduling, workshop format, materials, setup, and promotional opportunities.
