Artist Statement

I'm inspired by local scenes in and around Philadelphia, particularly the lush greenery of the Pennsylvania landscape and the historic buildings situated in it. I'm particularly interested in the interaction between the natural and built environment, and in the quality of light and how it shifts throughout the day and through the seasons. Above all, I am interested in conveying a sense of place in my work. I work from life whenever possible and have a dedicated plein air practice, and my field sketches often provide a starting point for my studio paintings.
