Artist Statement

My art emerges from a deep, continuous dialogue with the natural world, profoundly shaped by over 10,000 miles of foot travel. These journeys have led me through diverse ecosystems, from the Appalachian Trail to the wildernesses of the American West. Since 1994, I've been compelled to translate the textures, colors, and intricate patterns of these experiences into form. Through the physical act of moving through these environments, I discover their raw power and the delicate balance of forces evident in their forms—the intricacy of moss and lichen, the sculpted shift of sand, the bend of a tree. My work seeks to convey not merely what I observe, but the visceral experience, the quiet contemplation, and the deep introspection these untamed spaces evoke. Each piece is a deliberate invitation for collectors to pause, breathe, and find their own moment of reflection within the captured stillness, inspiring their own personal discovery.
