Artist Statement

I create stone fountain sculpture crafted of a unique 45 million year old stone sourced from one small deposit on the planet. These slender stone spires formed when lava cooled and cracked. The oxidized surface bares rich hues of rust, gold, champagne, mossy green, eggplant and powder blue! The curious lines of these natural rock spires, combined with such vibrant color variations, make them breathtaking to behold and gratifying to work with. I chose this rock, not because it is the rarest columnar stone, though it is, nor the most beautiful on the planet, though I also think it is. I chose to work with these columns because they draw me. They animate my creativity! It’s almost as if they chose me and command my devotion to their fullest potential.
