Artist Statement

My work is rooted in a quiet response to the natural world, particularly the calm and restorative qualities of the rural and coastal scenes. Shifting light, open space, and subtle atmosphere are fleeting conditions that invite stillness and reflection. Painting, whether en plein air or in the studio, is both observation and interpretation, allowing me to form these experiences into something lasting. My practice is sustained by looking closely and working consistently, often beginning with morning color studies before moving onto larger pieces. These paintings reflect a sense of peace, presence, and connection to a place that extends beyond the immediate scene.
