The Muscarelle Museum of Art’s Communal Quilt Project brings together people from across the community and the nation to share their own stories in fabric and glue. Conceived and facilitated by Muscarelle Director of Engagement Steve Prince, thousands of people have come together since 2021 to use this traditional art form to tell meaningful stories about their own lives, in conversation with their communities. These squares are connected into a massive quilt that will one day be a mile long, connecting William & Mary’s Wren Building to the Capitol Building in Colonial Williamsburg. At An Occasion for the Arts, participate by creating your own square (no sewing required!) to add to the Communal Quilt.
