Julia Samuels
Artist Statement
The unifying theme of my work is mankind's effect on the natural landscape, and nature's ability to preserve. I have a portfolio of woodcuts and linocuts that span from trees and vines trying to reclaim their space to full environments defined by chainlink fencing and razor wire. In the last several years I have focused on local neighborhoods of Providence, showcasing the history of the city through its complicated web transmission lines. The power lines symbolize our individual connections to Global Warming while providing detailed and intricate compositions.
